As any hockey goaltender knows, having reliable and high-performance gear is essential for success on the ice. Bauer has taken their renowned Hyperlite gear and upgraded it for the 2023 season with a combination of new technology, what worked before, and what’s worked in their other gear families. The Hyperlite 2 goalie stick is the next step up in the Vapor family with upgrades from the Proto-V limited edition stick, featuring Connectech, ACL 2.0, a Textreme carbon weave, and a Hypercore blade core.
Shaft Construction
The shaft uses Connectech technology, carrying over from the Proto-V limited edition prototype stick. Connectech is a responsive rubber layer in the handle that improves impact absorption and durability while lessening vibration.
Paddle Construction
The paddle uses a Textreme carbon weave construction, in addition to an upgraded version of the previous ACL tech, Advanced Carbon Layering 2.0. ACL involves strategically layering carbon fibre materials in specific patterns and orientations throughout the stick shaft and blade to make it as light and balanced as possible. ACL 2.0 further enhances that in terms of reinforcing surface strength and increasing the durability of the stick. With the successes of the Proto-V, the Hyperlite 2 now uses the same Tri-Bridge Air Paddle, which uses a triple-stanchion construction to further reinforce the paddle while additionally reducing the overall weight of the stick.
Blade Construction/Stiffness
The blade sticks to the Textreme construction with a HyperCore lightweight blade core. Textreme carbon fibre is characterized by its unique weaving pattern, which consists of thin, spread carbon fibres woven together in a crisscross pattern. This weaving technique allows for optimal weight reduction while maintaining excellent strength and durability. HyperCore is a blade core that debuted in the original Hyperlite goalie stick and gives the stick a very balanced feel while keeping the blade light weight.
Graphics
The graphics of the Hyperlite 2 look quite different from the previous Hyperlite, but closer to the rest of the line in going toward a more retro Vapor look. The paddle and top of the shaft are darker grey/black on all colour variations, with it lightening to white right at the junction between the paddle and shaft (the black variation, by contrast, is black throughout). The new Bauer logo is visible at the top of the shaft.
Grip
The Hyperlite 2 continues to use a Pentagrip grip and geometry between the paddle and the shaft for a more ergonomic and natural shape. This optimized grip is textured with an asymmetrical pentagonal shape over the shaft and on the front side, where the goalie would hold the stick. That way, the goalie can hold the stick more naturally while holding more of the stick in their hand.
Blade Patterns, Paddle Lengths, Stick Lengths, Weight, Level of Play
The Vapor Hyperlite 2 Senior goalie stick is available in 25”, 26”, and 27” lengths in the following colourways: Silver/Black, Black, Blue, and Red. At stock, this stick is only available with the P31 curve.
